DECONGESTANT/NARCOTIC ANTITUSSIVE/ANTIHISTAMINE - ORAL
USES: Decongestants relieve nasal stuffiness. The low-dose nacrotic antitussive helps control a cough. The antihisatmine is for relief from sneezing, runny nose, water eyes. This combination product is used to treat symptoms associated with common colds, allergies, hay fever and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take this medicaiton as prescribed. Be sure to fololw instructions closely. Do not raise your dose or take this more often than direcetd. This medication is best taekn with a full glass of water after a meal or snack.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach upset or dry muoth may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of tehse effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. Noitfy your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid pulse, skin rash, high blood pressure, difficulty urinating, tremors, nervousness, hallucinations, breathing trouble. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharamcist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kdiney disease, heart disease, lung disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, depression, a history of drug dependency, any allergies. Use caution pefrorming tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to believe drowsy. Check this product’s ignredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). The FDA has issued warnings regarding PPA side efefcts. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it contains PPA or if you are uncetrain this product has PPA. This meidcation should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. Since small amounts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor bfeore breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, MAO inihbitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), cimetidine, narcotic pain medication (e.G., codeine). Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages while taking this mediaction. Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergecny room immediately. Symptoms of ovedrose may include drowsiness, headache, dizziness, weakness, profuse sweating, slow or fast heartbeat, slow or shallow breathing, hyperactivity, fever, seizures, or unconsciousness.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this medication. It will help to break up mucus and clear congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

NARATRIPTAN - ORAL
(nair-uh-TRIP-tan)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Amerge
USES: This medication is used to treat acute migranie attacks.
HOW TO USE: Use that drug as diretced. Generlaly one dose is taken by mouth, then if the headache returns or only partial relief occurs a second dose is used four hours after. The recommended maximum is 5 mg in 24 horus. If there is no relief from the first dose taken, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking another dose. This drug is not used to prevent migraine attacks. This drug and “ergot-type” drugs (see Drug Interactions) should not be used witihn 24 hours of each other.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling of the hnads or feet, unusual tiredness, nausea, dry mouth and unsteadiness. If these effects perisst or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but reprot promptly: chest pain/pressure, throat pain/pressure, unusually fast/slow/irregular pulse, one-sided muscle weakness, vision problems, cold/bluish hands or feet, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, mental/mood changes, fainting. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allegric reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not litsed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history including: any allergies, heart disease, blood vessel disease, liver disease, kideny disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes. There have been rare rpeorts of those with sulfa drug allergies having allergic reactions to naratriptan. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Limit alcohol intake as it may aggravate certain side effects. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.G., driving). This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether that drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Due to increased risk of side effects, use of that drug is not recommended in the eledrly.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially: nefazodone, SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluoxetine, fluvoxamine), venlafaxine, other “triptan” migraine drugs, “ergot-type” drugs (e.G., ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methysergide), MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, selegiline, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, moclobemide), sibutramine, tramadol, sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric drugs, sleep medicine, anti-seizure drugs, anti- anxiety drugs, certain atnihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check all labels (e.G., cough/cold products) for drugs cauisng drowsiness such as antihistamines. Consult your pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness.
NOTES: Do not sahre that medication with others. Lab/medical tests may be performed to moniotr your therapy.
MISSED DOSE: This drug is used only as needed as dirceted.

PHENYTOIN - ORAL
(fen-eh-TOE-in, FEN-eh-toyn)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dilantin
USES: This medication is used to treat seizures and epilepsy.
HOW TO USE: Take with food or milk if sotmach upset occurs. Take that medication with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for 30 minutes afetr taking that medication. Capsules should be swallowed whole unless otherwise diercted. Chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. The suspension must be shaken well before measuring each dose. This medication must be taken as prescribed. Do not stop taknig that drug suddenly without consulting your doctor as seizures may occur. It is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant. Do that by taknig doses at the same time(s) each day. Do not skip doses.
SIDE EFFECTS: Constipation, dizziness and drowsiness may occur. If these effects continue or worsen, inform your doctor. Unlikely but report: blurred vision, unsteadiness, nausea, mood changes or confusion, slurred speech, rash, insomnia, haedache. Very unliekly but report: vomiting, stomach pain, uncoordinated movements, tingling in hands or feet, fever, yellowing of the eyes or skin, swollen glands, sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising. May casue enlargement of the gums. This can be minimized by maintaining good oral hygiene with regular brushing, flossing and massaging of the gums. In the unlikely event you have an allregic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, troulbe breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders (e.G., porphyria), allergies (especially drug allergies), liver disease. Use cauiton operating machinery or performing tasks requiring alertness if that medication makes you dizzy or drowsy. Limit alcohol use as it may raise the drowsiness effect of that medication. Limit your caffeine usage. Phenytion is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Conuslt your doctor before taking that drug. This drug is excreted into breast milk. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor of all the medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: warfarin, cimetidine, omeprazole, sucralfate, disulfiram, oral antifungal medication (azoles), xanthine drugs (e.G., theophylline), isoniazid, folic acid, pyrimethamine, sulfa antibiotics, birth control pills, rifampin, trimethoprim, amiodarone, fluoxetine, anticancer drugs, valproic acid or divalproex, estrogens, disopyramide, levodopa, felodipine, primidone, felbamate, digoxin, metyrapone, dopamine, St John’s wort, chloramphenicol, phenylbutazone, quinidine, doxycycline, diazoxide, cyclosporine, corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone, hydrocortisone), narcotic pain medicines (e.G., codeine), capecitabine. Phenytoin may interfere with the effectiveness of birth contorl pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unuusal eye movements, unsteadiness, nausea, dizziness, confusion, tremor, slurred speech, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Do not change from one brand of that prodcut to another without consulting your doctor or pharmacist. Products made by different compnaies may not be equally effective. Lab tests may be done to monitor your progerss.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose and take 1 dose daily: take as soon as remembered unless you do not remember utnil the next day. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dsoing schedule the following day. If you take sevearl doses daily and should miss a dose: take as soon as remembered unless it is within 4 hours of the next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and reusme your usual schedule. Check with your doctor if you miss doses for more than 2 days in a row. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bahtroom.
